UMT Studios is an independent design practise that specializes in websites. The studio is led by Uriah Marc Todoroff, who oversees and takes a code-first approach to each project. The browser and the database are creative mediums. Website projects are realized using a combined design and development process, and delivered as production-ready, hosted archives. UMT Studios is based in Montréal.
Conceived of as a self-hosted index of an author's work, the first design principle for this project was to create an optimized reading environment. The dynamic typographic layout was achieved through a careful selection of fonts, and by calibrating leading, kerning, size and weight according to the viewport. The project is also conceived of as an independent publication published by a single author. The information architecture and publication scope were developed together.
An experimental hybrid alternate reality game/theatre-piece. Based in cyberpunk and weird horror genres, influenced by epistolary writing and The Disintegration Loops.
The core product of UMT Studios, umtd-plugin is a custom database based on current library and information science. The platform uses Wordpress as a layer on top of a custom relational database scheme. A parent-child plugin structure, client-based configuration files, and a custom deploy script all allow for maintainability, modularity, and a high degree of standards-compliance and data integrity.
